The Free 60-Second Solar Roof Pre-Check: How It Works

Check whether your roof is a candidate for solar in under a minute. How our free structural pre-check works, what the result means, and where it stops.

We built a free structural pre-check so anyone weighing up rooftop solar can get an honest, indicative answer in under a minute, before spending money on a full assessment.

How it works

You enter the basics about the roof and the proposed system. The tool screens those inputs against the BS EN 1991 Eurocodes with the UK National Annexes and returns one of three results. It runs server-side on the same engineering basis we use for full reports, so the screening is grounded in the standards, not a generic rule of thumb.

What the result means

  • Green: the screening found no load concern on the inputs given. A good starting signal, not yet documented evidence.
  • Amber: borderline. This is where engineering judgement decides the outcome, and where a documented assessment earns its place.
  • Red: the screening flags a likely issue. Worth resolving before you commit to an install.
ABOUT AMBER

Amber is the most useful band. A roof screens Amber when the inputs sit close to the line. On paper it reads as borderline; in practice a documented assessment regularly takes an Amber roof and either confirms a workable approach or defines the adjustment that makes the array feasible.

What it does not do

The pre-check is deliberately honest about its limits. It is a screening, not the documented structural assessment that MIS 3002 V6.0 requires from 18 June 2026. It does not replace a site-specific report, and it says so on every result. Treat it as the fast first filter before the real engineering.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Is the pre-check free?

Yes. It returns an indicative feasibility result for any UK roof at no cost.

Does it satisfy MIS 3002 V6.0?

No. It is a screening. The documented structural assessment and wind loading calculation the standard requires follow as a separate, signed deliverable.

What happens after an Amber or Red result?

Both are worth a documented assessment. Amber often resolves to a workable approach; Red is better caught before you commit to an install.

Where Solar Surveys Helps

Run the free structural pre-check for an indicative answer in under a minute. When you are ready for documented evidence, the on-site structural survey is the thorough, lender-ready route, and the Desktop Structural Roof Loading Report is the fast option for well-documented roofs.
