Permitted Development (Solar PV)

The right to install solar PV on certain buildings without a full planning application, subject to conditions set out in the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order.

Permitted development rights for solar PV allow most commercial and domestic installations without a planning application, provided the system meets conditions in the relevant Permitted Development Order for England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland. Conditions typically limit panel projection above the roof surface and exclude listed buildings and certain conservation areas.

Even where planning permission is not required, all other compliance requirements still apply, including MIS 3002 V6.0 structural assessment, G98 or G99 network connection, and building regulations notification. Solar Surveys structural reports address the structural requirements that must be satisfied regardless of whether the installation proceeds under permitted development or full planning consent.
