G98 covers the connection of small solar PV systems (typically up to approximately 3.68 kW single phase or 11 kW three phase) to the UK distribution network. Unlike G99, a G98 system does not require prior DNO approval: the installer notifies the DNO within 28 days of commissioning. The system must use G98-compliant inverters and the installer must hold appropriate qualifications.
For commercial buildings with smaller arrays, G98 may be applicable. The structural documentation requirements under MIS 3002 V6.0 apply regardless of whether the connection is G98 or G99. All structural assessments carried out by Solar Surveys address MIS 3002 V6.0 compliance requirements irrespective of the DNO connection route.
