TPO Membrane Roof

A single-ply thermoplastic polyolefin roofing membrane used on flat and low-slope commercial roofs, offering good UV resistance and heat-weldable seams.

TPO membranes are widely used on modern commercial flat roofs and are compatible with both ballasted and mechanically-fastened solar PV mounting systems. The membrane's heat-weldable seams allow watertight detailing at any penetration points where fastened racking systems pass through. Structural engineers confirm deck and structural framing capacity to carry the proposed PV array loads before fixings are specified.

The condition of a TPO membrane, including seam integrity, surface degradation, and evidence of ponding, is assessed as part of a drone roof condition assessment prior to solar PV installation. A structurally sound building with a degraded membrane may require re-roofing before array installation to avoid post-installation water ingress at racking fixing points.
