Most commercial drone surveys for solar PV roof inspections are conducted under the Specific category of UK UAS regulations, requiring either a standard scenario authorisation or a bespoke operational authorisation from the CAA. Operators must hold a GVC (General Visual Line of Sight Certificate) qualification as a minimum.
For operations in controlled airspace within 5 km of a licensed aerodrome, additional permissions are required from the relevant air traffic control authority.
