Standing Seam Metal Roof

A metal roof system characterised by vertical ribs (seams) running the full length of the roof panels, allowing clip-based solar PV mounting without membrane penetrations.

Standing seam metal roofs are among the most commercially attractive substrates for solar PV installation because clip-based racking systems attach directly to the raised seams without piercing the waterproofing layer. This eliminates penetration sealing risk and typically reduces installation time. The roof structure must still be assessed to confirm that purlins and rafters can carry the combined PV dead load.

Structural engineers verify standing seam roof suitability by checking purlin spacing, section size, and clamp pull-out resistance against the proposed PV array layout. Where purlin spacing exceeds the racking system maximum span, additional purlins or sub-rails may be required. A Desktop Structural Roof Loading Report can confirm structural adequacy within the 48-hour delivery benchmark for sites with available drawings.
